Which shorts make the most sense in hot weather? Should you think about riding without a chamois to reduce the amount of moisture buildup? Are shorter shorts more likely to chafe against your inner thigh? What about loose fit versus high compression? Summer presents a whole other level of consideration when it comes to comfort on a bike. This guide is intended to help you figure out what’s right for you.
Cooling Fabric
New fabric technologies have entered the fray and we are particularly sold on Brrr. The marketing spin is that this advanced performance fabric was scientifically developed to harness the power of micro cooling technology and elevate the “triple chill effect”: cooling sensation, hyper wicking, increased fresh experience. We liked this combination and developed our new Hot Flash with this fabric. It’s our lightest, coolest, summer short yet.

Inner & Outer Ventilation
Temperatures 80+ are a blessing and a curse for anybody doing anything aerobic in a mostly static position like sitting on a bike saddle. Staying dry and ventilated in the nether regions, even on shorter rides, can be next to impossible. This gets compounded by the additional layers and materials of a chamois which can act like a giant sponge. The key is balancing comfort, ventilation and air flow. Our Flex Air and Fleet Air chamois are the absolute best as the foams we use for these are perforated for venting. The Flex Air Lite versions use thinner foam so they’re even better at moisture control. Paired up with a Terry saddle, this combination is as good an environment as you can achieve, wearing a padded short.
Shorts we recommend with our lightest Flex Air Lite chamois:
Chill 5 – a short-short that’s a minimalist in every way…including no leg bandsRebel is ultralight and has large mesh leg panels for extra ventingUPF 50+ Soleil has Flex Air Lite…and side mesh pockets. The NEW Liberty lite takes a Terry favorite and lightens up both the fabric and the chamois.
Riding Commando
Don’t even think about it unless you have a Terry saddle, but riding chamois free can also be a great way to reduce the heat factor and moisture buildup. It requires a slightly different thought process when it comes to short design through the crotch; you don’t want seams through the center. Look for shorts with a center gusset panel and wicking fabric.
Metro provides a center gusset & 7″ inseam with loose legsBliss gives you the loose, light, unpadded option with fusion gusset stretch panel for comfort
Is Shorter Better?
It only makes sense that going with a shorter length bike short will also help reduce the heat. Doing it comfortably can be tricky, as the shorter the short, the more likely you are to get inner thigh/saddle chafing.

Summer Cycling Tips
Remove your cycling shorts immediately after a ride and hop in the shower.
Don’t add – no underwear under bike shorts, particularly in the heat.
Avoid riding in cotton shorts as they will absorb moisture and create a breeding ground for bacteria.
Buy good quality (Terry) shorts that have an antibacterial cover on the chamois.
Saddles with cutaways not only provide for comfort but for ventilation.
Change up your riding style during the summer — get out of the saddle more frequently.
While June 21st, might be the official start of Summer, I think we can all agree that Memorial Day Weekend is the kickoff party. To help you celebrate and shift into warm-weather mode, we’re offering 30% off on our favorite Bike Shorts and Knickers for a limited time. Here’s what we recommend adding to your riding wardrobe for miles of smiles this summer…
Available in 3 lengths and sizes XS-3X, these are the best shorts for bike touring. There, we said it. Equipped with an impressive feature package that’s ideally suited for multi-day bike travels, our Touring Shorts are made from a tri-blended fabric that was specifically developed to keep you dry, comfortable and supported. It has a moderately compressive fit and includes our dedicated Flex Air Touring chamois, one of the most padded chamois we offer. The Touring Shorts are among our best selling and most loved collections of shorts and are the ones we recommend to riders of all levels and sizes.
These shorts are meant for climbing, and that’s just what they’ll do! I bought these shorts before going to France to ride, and I am happy to say that they are GREAT! My husband and I logged almost 90 miles, and climbed over 10,000 feet, and they (and I) still feel like new!
A Bicycling magazine Editor’s Choice and a firm favorite of the gals at FemmeCyclist, the buttery-soft Breakaway Short packs an incredible level of features and value into a performance cycling short. Available in black or charcoal, this highly rated short has sculpted paneling, a minimally compressive and moisture wicking soft nylon/spandex fabric, and our premium Fleet Air chamois that’s ideal for almost any duration of time in the saddle.
My Breakaway shorts are my GO-TO short and I probably own about 8 pairs. Love the padding, weight (light), waistband, and length. Nothing compares. Thanks again, Terry for keeping me comfy AND stylish.
Cam in her Chill 7 Shorts with her sidecar companion, Rick.
Call it bias, but the Chill 7 Shorts are this blogger’s personal favorite. Sleek and simply constructed yet technically ingenious, they use the latest in fabric technologies to eliminate the leg band and instead seamlessly integrate silicone against the thigh to prevent them from riding up. The result? No bulge, no pinch and no sausage effect, despite the Chill being one of the highest compression styles we offer. I love the ultra-wide waistband and the 7 inch inseam is perfect for shorter riders such as myself or anyone who wants to show some shin this season. Outfitted with our thinner Flex Air Lite chamois, this is a great summer performance short, but don’t just take my word for it:
I love these shorts so much, I bought spare pairs! The waistband is comfortable and stays in place. The same with the gripper free legs. The fabric is light enough for hot summer riding, and the chamois, while effective, is compact enough that my riding buddy had to ask if it was padded since she didn’t want to get caught staring at my backside. I would definitely recommend these shorts.
Our goal with the Long Haul was to design a lightweight performance-level short that would be up for the challenge of centuries, high heat situations, international touring and gravel riding. To hit our marks, we started from the inside out and gave it our new Flex Air Max chamois that provides an additional dual-density layer of padding that adds another level of comfort without increasing bulk. Minimally constructed with a combination of high compression fabrics and its longer inseam length helps reduce muscle fatigue while the lightness of the overall short makes them incredibly comfortable.
Super comfy!! They are the best shorts I have ever purchased!! They keep me comfortable on my long rides.
The use of a sensuous performance fabric and the complete removal of a leg band define this Terry staff favorite. The Easy Rider is made from a sueded, matte-finished nylon/spandex fabric that gives it a unique and luxe texture and is equipped with a super wide waistband, our Fleet Air chamois and raw-cut legs. Designed so you can wear it comfortably for rides of most any duration, this is one of the best values you’ll finding during our Memorial Day Sale and beyond.
Easy Rider checks all the boxes. I love the matte finish and the fabric is light and breathes. Check! The waistband and bandless legs add to the shorts flattering fit. Check! Comfortable and washing well after multiple rides. Check!
This trail blazer provides women with a longer length, 2-piece short/padded liner combo that can be pulled on easily and comfortably worn on or off the bike. It’s been tested out on Italian bike tours (where it excelled at truffle hunting), on the singletrack of Montana, and has even become part of the unofficial workplace uniform for Team Terry. Made of a recycled stretch woven polyester, the Rover has an easy-fit printed mesh waistband, 2 front zippered pockets to secure essentials and a 13 inch inseam that provides excellent coverage without inhibiting mobility. It comes ready to ride with our padded Universal Liner that can swiftly be removed when you transition from gravel to travel or from bike mode to work mode.
Bought these & 3 other clothing items. All were the perfect fit, very comfortable, easy to care for, & I got many compliments. All my future bike clothing will be coming from Terry!

The Bella Prima Knicker is available in Blackout or with Pink contrast stitching.
The Bella Prima Knicker is our best-in-class performance bottom that extends coverage below the knee and comes with our top-of-the-line Flex Air Carbon chamois that is faster drying, has heightened antimicrobial and moisture wicking properties, and is naturally antistatic. Made with our sublime French nylon high compression fabric with a satiny matte finish, it’s a sleek, multi-season riding bottom with lots of additional features you don’t typically find in women’s cycling capris, and a fit that has made it an essential for cyclists of all varieties.
Do I recommend these? Oh yes, yes, yes! I already have a pair of these Bella Prima Knickers & love them so much I purchased a second pair. Chamois is fantastic, waist stays where you want it, no binding on the leg edges, fabric is perfection where compression is concerned plus it’s quite stylish. Sizing in right on also. What’s not to love?
With more coverage than shorts and less heat than tights, the Knicker is one of our most popular cycling bottoms for all-season riding and has the same design elements as our esteemed Touring Shorts. It is made from the same great tri-blended fabric blend, is available in sizes XS-3X and of course, includes our dedicated Flex Air Tour chamois.
I finally found a pair of bike knickers that don’t give me hives after a long day of riding in the heat. These feel more like leggings than the typical spandex bike tights, and yet still are snug on my legs to prevent chafing. I’ll definitely be buying another pair!
After our Breakaway Short was awarded Editors’ Choice by Bicycling magazine, we knew we should also offer it in a longer length for more coverage and seasonal usability. The Breakaway Knicker, available in black or charcoal, is now one of our most popular bottoms and is made of a silky, lightweight performance fabric that allows you to use it comfortably in a wide variety of temperatures without overheating or getting sunburned.
My search for the best riding knicker has ended – I found the Breakaway and it’s perfect. Fabric, fit and length combine to make the most comfortable knicker to ride in. It’s comfortable in hot weather, a real plus for this summer.

Occasionally we have to ask ourselves if we’ve lost our minds when it comes to new product development. The topic of dresses always makes for lively debate as to its practicality for cycling. The realities of living a life by bike necessitates an open mindedness about what to wear and when. Dresses can be a wonderful cover up on or off bike. They allow for quick changes and the ones we’ve found have a level of portability that allows them to be rolled up into a bike bag. Quick change artistry at its best.

Start squirreling away more $$ for your retirement and that next bike. Looks like the power of cycling to stave off osteoarthritis and add to your longevity is more than just wishful thinking. A new study funded by the NIH and published by the American College of Sports Medicine found that cyclists were 21% less likely to have x-ray evidence and symptoms of osteoarthritis compared to non-cyclists. And these weren’t competitors but average cyclists from mid-40’s to 80’s with elevated risk factors.
We all know that cycling is a low to no impact activity so it only makes sense that it’s better for your body parts. It protects your joints, helps preserve cartilage, can help move synovial fluid and helps build muscle that supports and protects the knees. NPR provides further details of this study and cites another that found people who cycled one hour per week were 20%+ less likely to die prematurely.
While this all makes sense, having worked with female cyclists for over 3 decades, we hear about knee pain regularly associated with overuse, too. Most common is is kneecap pain which normally comes from bad bike fit or biomechanical issues. Many cyclists suffer from muscle tightness and imbalance due to prolonged riding that tightens quads and hamstrings and results in shortening of muscle groups due to a lack of stretching. Saddle height can also play a role (too low or too high and you can develop hyperflexion and patella pain). Having your cleats slightly out of position can also force you to pedal with poor biomechanics, placing stress on different parts of the knee. If you have the luxury of good insurance, a physiotherapist can help identify where you’re out of whack and can suggest adjustments to your training and cyling regimen. Otherwise, this article has good information.
Cycling can have a broad impact on our longevity. As reported by the Harvard School of Public Health, “a meta-analysis of 17 studies looking at the association of walking or cycling to work and mortality found a 21% lower risk of deaths from any cause and 33% lower risk of cardiovascular deaths in cyclists.”
All exercise promotes the release of endorphins which are natural mood boosters and stress reducers. There’s plenty of research that says adding an outdoor component to your workout will increase these effects. Cycling has also been shown to have positive impacts on managing type 2 diabetes, lowering mortality rates by 35% if continued for at least 5 years (JAMA Internal Medicine).
What about indoor cycling? According to research by the Cleveland Clinic, it turns out it, too, can build up muscular strength and endurance. It improves coordination and balance, and helps with loosening quadriceps, hamstrings, calves and hips, leading to more flexibility over time.
No matter when you start, where you ride, what you ride or what shape you’re in, the benefits of cycling on mental, social, cardiovascular and joint health begin immediately. The best gift you can give yourself, your staff and those you love is an open invitation to go ride.
Next to riding, one of the best things in the world is curling up with a good book. Even better if that book whisks you off on a cycling adventure or helps relieve stress from your daily life. We’ve selected a handful of books, written by riders, that we recommend adding to your reading list this summer. Join us in the Terry Bike Month Book Club, check out these titles and let us know what you think and what’s on your bookshelf in the comments…
My two favourite things in life are libraries and bicycles. They both move people forward without wasting anything. The perfect day: riding a bike to the library.

HEIDI ACROSS AMERICA: One Woman’s Journey on a Bicycle through the Heartland
In the summer of 2010, author and slow travel enthusiast Heidi Beierle had just finished her first year of graduate studies in Community and Regional Planning and embarked on a solo bike tour and research trip from her home in Eugene, Oregon to the Preserving the Historic Road Conference in Washington, D.C. What started as a research trip studying bicycle tourism and rural economic development, evolved into an intimately physical and psychological encounter with self and nationhood.
At the time of her journey across America, Heidi was 35 and admittedly didn’t love much about herself except her ability to endure grueling physical undertakings. She viewed this expedition as an opportunity to fix her failures and insufficiencies while highlighting her strengths. There were also some pressing research questions she wanted to explore: Why do people live in small towns and what do they like about it? Did a cyclist like herself bring economic benefit to the small towns she visited? What could communities do to support or invite cyclists to stay in their towns? What could cyclists do to support the communities?
From the Pacific to the Atlantic, she was surprised by the kindness of strangers and the emotional toil of her journey. This trip led her to travel through Wyoming, where she grew up and where the wind, dryness and desolate landscape made a lasting imprint on her. It took her through the Plains and into the Ozarks where the heat climbed to agonizing temperatures and every mile felt one closer to defeat. She faces these tribulations head on and reflects on how her upbringing taught her self-reliance, the beautiful dimensions of solitude and how to push through the pain, one pedal stroke at a time. Throughout her travels, Heidi discovers a newfound compassion for herself and a growing love for her country.
And throughout her journey and observance of others, her questions began to morph and mirror things many Americans are asking themselves today: How can I be okay in my own skin? What does it mean to be enough? How do I satisfy my desire to travel without harming the planet? What does it mean to love America?
For many young people, it is a rite of passage to set out on an adventure to see the world and expose themselves to new experiences, however, we often think of these experiences as occurring overseas and in far off lands. Heidi Across America presents a journey to self-love, played across America that exposes the reader to the diversity, awe, and wonder, that’s available right here in our nation. In this book, Heidi transverses many landscapes and heavy-hitting topics, allowing us to sit sidesaddle as she meets new friends, encounters old demons, and finds herself on the bike and her connection to the heartland.
Heidi Beierle’s memoir, Heidi Across America, is what we all need to read in our current climate of cultural and political division. Beierle brings her open-hearted curiosity to every roadway, every diner, and every person (or animal) she encounters, offering the reader a glimpse into what it really means to be a true citizen of a homeland as vast and diverse as the United States. On a bicycle and depending upon the kindness of strangers, this author takes us on a journey that is more than a grueling ride through the heartland. It is a guide for all of us to slow down and really look at what is right in front of us. If you need a shot of optimism and hope, Heidi Across America will put it right into your veins.
– Cami Ostman founder of The Narrative Project and author of Second Wind
This intrepid, honest, compelling, introspective travel memoir is beautifully descriptive of the rural parts of the United States as it ranges from the mountains to the plains to the cities. Cyclists, armchair travelers, and women exploring new directions in life will be drawn to this book.
Heidi Beierle is an artist, writer, adventurer, and self-proclaimed creepy-crawly lover based in Bellingham, Washington. Her writing focuses on slow travel, cycling and the sensory experience of being alive and has been published in National Geographic Traveler, High Desert Journal, VoiceCatcher Journal, Journal of America’s Byways, and on the Adventure Cycling Association blog. Currently, Heidi is on a largely car-free book tour, traveling the country to promote her debut memoir, Heidi Across America. Despite being 400 pages, The Breakaway from #1 New York Time best selling author Jennifer Weiner is a page-turner that can be engulfed in one weekend, and ideally from a hammock, camp, beach or lounge chair. This warmhearted, empowering novel is much more than a romance, with themes of friendship, body positivity, the complexities of mother/daughter relationships, secrets and the power of choice, all on the backdrop of a life-changing bike tour.
Our protagonist, Abby Stern, wants to believe she’s made it to her happy place, yet can’t escape the feeling that something isn’t right. She’s got good friends, her trusty bike, a cycling club in Philadelphia, and is on track to marry her childhood sweetheart, Mark. She’s in her thirties and finally at peace with her plus-size body—at least, most of the time—has an apartment in one of the greatest cities in the world and while she may not have a “career” is finding her stride working gig jobs. So why does something feel off? Well, for starters she can’t stop thinking about the thrilling night of passion she had with a man named Sebastian two years prior….
When Abby receives a last-minute invitation to lead a 700-mile bike tour from NYC to Niagara Falls, she views it as the perfect opportunity to take some space from Mark, have a chance to reflect and make up her mind on her happily ever after. But things get complicated fast. First, Abby spots a familiar face in the group—it’s no other than Sebastian, the sexy stranger and one-night stand she thought she’d never see again. In spite of their undeniable chemistry and previous connection, Abby is determined to keep her distance. The next unwelcomed twist? Abby’s diet-and-weight obsessed mother, who she blames for a lifetime of body shaming and insecurities that she’s still trying to overcome, joins the tour as a surprise addition. The Breakaway is told through several POV chapters with the most POV narration stemming from Abby and Sebastian. However, this way of storytelling provides a glimpse into the lives of many of the cyclists on tour, creating a dynamic and relatable cast of characters.
Over the two week tour, strangers become friends, hidden truths come to light, a teenage girl with a secret unites the riders in unexpected ways…and Abby is forced to reconsider everything she believes about herself, her mother, and the nature of love.
The Breakaway is delightfully suspenseful, sexy and just so much fun. Our romantic hero, Abby, is refreshingly poised, confident and human, acknowledging her flaws while not sizing herself down—literally and figuratively—to fit into any societal standards. This rom com is both breezy and thoughtful, with Weiner touching on some serious issues while maintaining a light-hearted tone that allows you to sit back and enjoy the ride.
A journey that’s as much about self-discovery as it is about exploring new territory on wheels.

As we round out this year’s Earth Day celebrations, you have likely been inundated with suggestions on how to reduce your carbon footprint or how to take action against climate change. This information can often be overwhelming—as the subject of climate change often is—and the prospect of working toward a sustainable future can feel daunting. One suggestion you may have seen is to avoid fast fashion, which is the rapid production of trendy, disposable clothes, often at the sacrifice of the environment. The discourse around the apparel industry and environmentalism begets the question: where does Terry fit into all this? In this blog, we hope to provide some clarity by sharing a few thoughts on sustainability, our environmental accomplishments and goals, and make a case for a strong contender in the future of sustainability: cycling.
Sustainability In Apparel: What Really Matters?
Consumption inherently has a carbon footprint. Any new product you purchase has inputs that emit some form of greenhouse gas either through production, distribution, or disposal of that product. The sustainability of a product has become a huge consideration for consumers when making purchasing decisions. Instances of greenwashing, or the act of providing intentionally misleading information about the sustainability of a product, frequent apparel advertising. Even alternative options like thrifting and renting clothing still have their environmental drawbacks. The abundance of information and environmental considerations that come with making a purchase can be overwhelming, as the subject of climate change often is. For some people, the prospect of working toward a sustainable future can feel daunting enough to cause feelings of climate anxiety or eco-guilt. With all the considerations that come with being more sustainable, our sense of agency can be obscured—what is there to do when it feels like every decision has some sort of environmental or ethical consequence?
Perhaps the best thing to do is to focus on the bigger picture. As we collectively work to build a more sustainable future, it is important to remember the most significant impacts we can make on climate change will come from systemic and cultural changes. Although it is important to consider the various environmental impacts of our individual purchasing decisions, we can still create a more sustainable culture by simply changing the way wethinkabout purchasing clothes.
One of the best things you can do to practice sustainability while buying clothes is to purchase items built to last. Consider it an investment in carbon emissions: if all cycling apparel produces carbon emissions by one means or another, you might as well buy the items that will last you the longest and grant you the most uses—the most bang for your carbon bucks. If you make a purchase prioritizing the longevity and versatility of a garment, you are helping to combat fast fashion culture, all while making a carbon conscious choice. Afterall, the greatest pitfall of sustainability in apparel is overproduction at the expense of quality. A mindset shift to investing in high quality clothes that are built to last is a powerful and long-lasting way to bring about a more sustainable future.
Our Soleil Long Sleeve Tops are lighweight, moisture wicking, antimicrobial and offer year round sun protection that’s comfortably wearable in even the hottest conditions. With just one top, you unlock four seasons of use and unlimited potential.
Terry’s Steps Towards Sustainability
Our Vista Bike Bottoms are not only durably designed but also constructed from a unique recycled fabric blend.
Here at Terry, we take our time to develop the highest quality cycling apparel. We don’t rush through our rides, so why would we rush through our products? We work diligently to ensure our clothing, accessories and saddles will not only last, but will also keep you the most comfortable you can be on a bike. We want every woman to feel confident in themselves and our gear, so we use premium and durable materials that can handle the wear and tear of even the most active lifestyle and perform as well as the day it was purchased. We believe it’s important to buy less and wear longer, and thus produce garments with an extended lifecycle that encourage a more sustainable mindset around consumption.
The Butterfly is my lifelong saddle. I bought one for my new bike and it is just as great as my first Butterfly! The original is well over 10 years old and going strong.
– Nicole B., Terry Customer.
In 2023, we focused our sustainability efforts on the development process and solidifying baselines for sustainability reporting and goals. Here is a summary of our latest successes, along with some of our ongoing goals:
PFAS Elimination Per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances, abbreviated as PFAS, have gained notoriety in recent years for their adverse health effects on both humans and animals. PFAS have found their way into many consumer goods, either by intentional usage—namely water repellant finishes—or unintentional contamination. States, such as California, have passed regulatory limits on the concentration of PFAS allowed in consumer goods to help combat the presence of these dangerous chemicals.
As of 2023, all Terry-branded products have gone through a rigorous environmental audit to ensure that none of our products contain unsafe concentrations of PFAS. This effort has involved testing garments of concern, obtaining certificates to verify safe levels of PFAS in existing products, and confirming that any new textiles or materials are PFAS-free before development proceeds.
More SustainableFabrics In 2023, we updated the fabrication of our Metro Collection to a recycled stretch woven blend that’s lightweight, quiet in motion and features a water-resistant finish that’s PFAS-free. We also added the Vista Skort to our Vista Line of bottoms that are made from a unique stretch twill weave where 100% of the nylon fibers used are recycled. Currently, we are working on transitioning our existing styles to recycled fabrics. This process is lengthy, as it involves various checks to guarantee the quality, sourcing, safety, and overall feel of the recycled fabric. We are in the midst of switching one of our most popular styles (hint: she’s ultralight and sun protective) to a recycled version, an environmentally friendly change we hope to bring to you all in 2025.
The Metro Skort is one of our most versatile pieces and is constructed from recycled materials. It’s a win-win.
We also make it a priority to use materials that have been chemically tested and independently certified to ensure the highest quality and safety in our products, for you and the environment. We especially love materials that are bluesign approved and/or Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified due to their comprehensive and rigorous chemical testing requirements. Currently, all our chamois are bluesign approved and the majority of our fabrics are Oeko-Tex Standard 100. We continuously work to source and incorporate materials that meet these certifications.
The Easy Rider Tank and Easy Rider Capri joined our lineup this Spring and are both made from sublime, Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Certified fabrics.
Environmentally Conscious Packaging One of the more difficult challenges is finding environmentally conscious packaging. Recycled/recyclable plastic bags are a step forward in sustainable packaging, but we hope to eliminate plastic bags entirely in the upcoming years. We are currently in the testing stages of an environmentally friendly and innovative solution to plastic bags—some of you may have gotten a sneak peek at this new packaging with your Spring order. While we are still in the initial testing stages, we hope to integrate these new packaging methods in the coming seasons. While transitioning to more sustainable packaging requires long-term planning and can take time to implement, Terry’s goal of eliminating plastic packaging is in the works.
Carbon Emmisions Reporting As many of you are aware, Terry is a small company. Carbon emissions reports can be time consuming and resource intensive; however, we are excited to share that we have completed our baseline carbon emissions reporting, and we are in the process of quantifying emissions from 2023. These carbon reports will give us a comprehensive look at how we are improving in our sustainability efforts each year and provide key metrics for areas of both success and improvement. Our baseline carbon emissions report solidifies a foundation for our sustainability efforts here at Terry and we can’t wait to share how our footprint lessens as we learn more and build on this foundational framework.
Cycling: The Best Way To Love The Planet
The grass is always greener on the other side of a ride…
Perhaps the most significant step forward in sustainability is something we have all done together: encouraging cycling. Switching out your car for a bike can have a significant impact on your carbon footprint. One study found that on average, cyclists have an 84 percent lower daily travel carbon emissions than non-cyclists. This reduction in emissions gets better the more you ride, with CO2 life cycle emissions reduced by 14 percent for every additional bike ride. Swapping your car for a bike on one trip a day can reduce your annual carbon footprint by 0.5 tonnes—to put that in perspective, in 2022, transportation emissions in the United States were 5.13 metric tonnes per capita.
Who said sustainable transportation couldn’t be fun?!
Emissions for the US transportation sector account for a large chunk of our country’s carbon footprint. In 2022, the transportation sector was responsible for 29 percent of total carbon emissions in the United States, with the majority of these emissions coming from petroleum-operated trucks and passenger cars. Compared to European countries, such as Denmark and the Netherlands, the United States has an undeveloped cycling infrastructure making it more difficult to utilize your bike as an effective carbon footprint reducer.
This is why it is more important now than ever to get you and your best friends out for a ride! By expanding the cycling community, we have the power to shape what a sustainable future looks like. The more you bike and encourage a strong community of cyclists, the more likely your town or state is to prioritize cycling infrastructure, which in turn encourages more cycling… and more carbon savings.
Sometimes the most important things you can do to help move this world to sustainability are the most straight forward. By strengthening your cycling community and choosing your bike over your car, you are, little by little, helping to influence a culture that prioritizes cycling, sustainability, and a love for our planet.
It’s no longer under wraps—our Summer Collection and favorite season has landed!

Our Great Gear Up sale ends this Sunday and we’d be remiss not to share our top Bike Bag recommendations to snag at 20% off. Every year we raise the bar on our accessory team and this season, they brought their A-game to the bag department. Whether you’re looking for a companion for leisurely rides, a day on the trails or your next big cycling trip, there’s a bag for you that will add more than just carrying capacity to your ride…
We teamed up with Po Campo to create a custom, limited-edition Kinga Bike Bag that celebrates our shared love of cycling and joint mission to get more women on bikes—comfortably and beautifully. One of the best selling, waterproof and durable handlebar bags on the market, the Kinga easily attaches to any handlebar (yes, it will fit yours) using adjustable and secure Velcro straps and features a wheely great print you’ll only find at Terry & Po Campo. When not putting in the miles on your bike, the Kinga quickly converts into a fashionable crossbody bag that’s compatible with any on-the-go lifestyle.
Katy Trunk Bag in BubblyKaty Trunk Bag in Meadow
Another new favorite from Po Campo, the convertible Katy Trunk Bag transitions from bike to work to shop to party and can be worn as a shoulder bag, so it’s like getting 2 bags in 1. One of the most functional bags you’ll find, it’s made from waterproof and vegan fabrics, quickly and securely attaches to a rear rack with 4 velcro straps, has a roomy interior and 7 pockets (3 exterior, 4 interior).
Crescent Bike Bag in MeadowCrescent Bike Bag in Bubbly
Po Campo’s take on a classic bike basket: made better with cute prints and state-of-the-art construction. Simple to attach/detach via secure Fixi-Straps, the Crescent Bag is compatible with all handlebars and has an open compartment to keep your gear within quick reach and an internal zippered pocket to keep your valuables safe.
This Wedge Pack and Tool Kit includes: 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6mm Allen wrenches, T25 Torx wrench, Phillips screw driver, 8 and 10 mm open wrenches, universal chain tool with chain hook, 2 tire levers and a fly paper glueless patch kit.
The Survival Wedge Pack and Tool Kit from Topeak can be a ride-saver. It easily attaches to your seat post using Quickclink fasteners and packs in 13 handy tools to help nix the struggle of roadside repairs and ensure you’re always prepared.
Designed to carry your smartphone, cards, cash and keys the PakGo Cycling Wallet from ToPeak is constructed from durable EVA foam and features a soft velvet interior, inner mesh pockets, and silicone bands that secure your phone. Compact and well organized, this rigid wallet keeps your belongings protected from sweat and minor impacts and is small enough to slip right into your jersey pocket.
Built to holster the small things you can’t ride without, like your phone, snacks or repair supplies, this clever cylinder from Swift Industries makes it easy to access your gear and acts as an on-the-go aid station. With a simple drawcord closure that can be opened one-handed and two mounting systems, the Sidekick Pouch can be attached to the nook between your bike’s stem and handlebars or hitched onto another Swift Industries bag for extra capacity.
The small-but-mighty Moxie Top Tube Bag from Swift Industries puts ride essentials within reach and just a zipper pull away. As you may have guessed, this bag secures to your bike’s top tube, but what will surprise you is all the thoughtful details. To protect delicate cargo, the Moxie is made with durable and sustainable ECOPAK fabric and built with side-wall stiffeners and a layer of padding to prevent wobbling en route. It include 3, one-wrap Velcro attachment straps for easy installation and the water-resistant zipper can be opened one-handed for ease of access when on the move.

The main compartment is perfect for carrying your helmet, shoes, extra layers, tech gadgets and tools and there’s an exterior zipper pocket to secure smaller items. It’s super lightweight, comes in 3 colors and can be carried by its shoulder strap or handles.
It’s always handy to have a durable little bag that you can attach and detach quickly from your handlebars. The Mountain Bike Mini is weatherproof, minimalistic and features daisy chain webbing that adds attachment points for bike lights and other small accessories.
Accessory Clip Bag in LoganberryAccessory Clip Bag in Black & Pink
And speaking of small accessories, the Accessory Clip Bag from Topo was designed to save your little items from falling into the bike bag black hole. This mini pouch keeps essentials like your cards, cash, keys and small tools tidy and at the ready. It also makes a great addition to your everyday carry, travel, camera, or work bag; just fasten it with the customer carabiner, and off you go.

Many associate skorts with tennis, however, this portmanteau’s path to becoming a women’s activewear staple really begins with cycling. Skorts, or “trouser skirts” as they were known in 1890s fad fashion, emerged as bicycles rose in prominence as a form of transportation and offered women the opportunity to travel independently. One caveat to their newfound freedom on two-wheels was the exaggerated and restrictive fashion of the Victorian Age—defined by heavy petticoats, corsets, and full skirts—that drastically inhibited their mobility. The first skorts, wide-legged pants masked by a button-up skirt panel, were born as a demand for practicality and became a statement of independence in Victorian society.
A stereograph, circa 1899. “Sew on your own buttons, I’m going for a ride.”
While we’ve come a long way from trouser skirts, we still demand practicality from our cycling attire and at Terry, we believe that femininity, fun, and function can all ride in tandem. As a pioneer in the modern women’s cycling skort movement, we’re delighted to offer more options in this category than ever with a range of designs, lengths, materials and colorways that offer women the freedom to move—in and out of the saddle—without compromising on style. Read on for a guide to the latest Bike Skorts at Terry. We hope you’ll join us on the outskirts.
We designed this fierce performance skort for independent spirits who find themselves on all kinds of bikes and all kinds of adventures. It’s made of a lovely combination of performance fabrics and is constructed with a higher rise, supportive waist, and a lightweight and ventilating perforated skirt that’s attached at the low waist to minimize bulk while adding feminine energy. Under the skirt, you’ll find an aatached, moderately compressive 5.5 inch liner with a hidden envelope pocket to secure your smartphone and our Fleet Air Lite chamois that provides superior breathability in high heat conditions and enough padding to handle rides of any duration.
Our best-selling Rebel Skort gives you a leg up on performance features compared to the Indie Skort. This rule breaker is made of premium, high compression fabric and features a higher rise, supportive waist and our Italian Flex Air chamois, designed for all-day adventures and multi-day excursions. Like the Indie, its ventilating chevron perforated skirt is attached at the low waist and its silhouette is contoured in the front and a bit more free flowing in the rear to avoid interference when climbing in and out of the saddle. The Rebel’s integrated liner short has a longer, 8 inch inseam and a high compression fit to support your muscles and fend off fatigue and also includes a hidden patch pocket with a flap on the right leg to secure your cell phone or other small ride essentials.
Our Fixie Skort is an ideal choice for commuters, recreational riders, and bike travelers who make frequent stops to enjoy the sights and delights of their cycling trip. It’s made of a beautifully heather, Italian fabric that moves with you, feels amazing against the skin, doesn’t wrinkle, and therefore, travels very well. Its wide, elastic-free waistband provides a comfortable fit and its open mesh, dual side pockets are super handy and able to accommodate your phone or anything else you want at the ready. Its attached liner short includes our seamless and minimally-padded Slite Chamois that lets you walk around comfortably off the bike without anything bulky inhibiting your stride.
A hit since its introduction, the Trixie Skort is full of tricks and hidden talents. Beyond its beautifully 360-degree printed skirt lies an undercarriage built for distance. The attached liner has a moderately compressive fit and a 6 inch inseam with hidden elastic leg bands to prevent the shorts from riding up while our Fleet Air Chamois will provide you with the padding needed for many happy hours in the saddle. The Trixie’s skirt has an extra-wide waistband with just a thin elastic for additional support and features the same handy open pockets as the Fixie.
The Trixie is available in two prints: Bleuet and Galaxy
Hot days exploring gravel roads and the pursuit of non-stop adventure inspired us to create the Vista Skort. Not only is it made of durable and backroad-ready, recycled, stretch woven nylon, it also features a 4-way stretch waistband for added comfort and an accommodating fit. A peak performer, its integrated liner short is equipped with our Fleet Air Lite chamois and is attached to the overskort so the only shifting you’ll need to consider is your next gear. The outer skirt has a mobility-friendly design that separates at the sides for easy pedaling and has an attractive, printed wrap-around yoke, because while you might be off the beaten path, personal style still matters.
The Macy Skort is available in two colors: Black and Multi Floral
The Macy Skort from Krimson Klover is our guest star skort this season. It’s responsibly made with light and stretchy recycled polyester for mobility and it balances athletic and everyday comfort with its stylish skirt and attached mesh inner shorts. The flattering front pleats allow for a full range of motion while the adjustable waist lets you find your perfect fit. Unpadded for ultimate useability, it’s a fun option that keeps comfort levels high and style at a maximum whether you’re pedaling, paddling or practicing your serve.
One of our first forays into cycling skorts, the Metro Skort, still reigns supreme. It’s a versatile two-piece, skirt and padded liner ensemble that allows you to ride anywhere and everywhere, whether commuting to work, hitting the farmer’s market or on a vineyard tour (believe us—the Metro has been there). Its outer skirt is made from a recycled stretch woven fabric that’s lightweight, water-resistant and quiet in motion and features four pockets: 2 front hand pockets, 1 zippered lower front pocket and 1 bellowed cargo pocket with magnetic closure that easily fits a smartphone. For added mobility, it has a two-way vertical zipper at the front and hem slit at the rear. The unattached Universal Liner is padded for comfort and made from a performance fabric that feels great next to skin and provides the coverage needed for full confidence in the saddle. When you shift out of bike mode, the liner can be removed giving you a great skirt for work, travel and play.
The Metro Skort is available in two colors: Ebony and limited-edition Orchid
The goal with the Rover Skort was to provide adventurous women with another riding option that works equally well at home as it does on a spectacular bike trip and adds print to the equation for FUN. Like the Metro Skort, it was designed to be a versatile, 2-piece skirt/padded liner combination that can be worn on or off the bike. This iteration has pull-on styling for quick change artistry and an easy fitting elastic waistband for all-day comfort. The faux wrap outer skirt provides full freedom of movement and has 2 front drop-in pocket and a hidden zippered pocket. To give it unlimited potential, we’ve paired the Rover Skort with our Universal Liner.
Our assortment of cycling skirts instantly convert any pair of bike shorts or liners into a skort and are the perfect quick cover companions to ensure you’re welcome at any stop on your exotic bike travels. They’re all made from performance fabrics, so in addition to cycling, they excel on the pickleball court, waterfront and hiking trails.

One entry to Montana Tour‘s fully supported, camp-based bike tour June 22-28, 2024*
Established in 2020 by Terry Ambassador, Jennifer Drinkwalter, Montana Tour is a nonprofit located in Red Lodge, MT dedicated to providing support and infrastructure to non-motorized travelers, whether they be tourists or longtime locals. Jennifer and her team strive to produce events for more than just the advanced rider and prioritize inclusivity, affordability, community building and good, clean—okay, probably a little gritty—fun. They focus on event experience and work diligently to create spaces and opportunities where female cyclists, especially newcomers, can get involved. Their female leadership team and crew provide amazing ride support and a truly welcoming environment, and as a result, ladies consistently make up 45% of participants across their events.
Their premier event and namesake, the Montana Tour, is a fully supported, week-long, camp-based tour that begins in beautiful Red Lodge, nestled in Montana’s magnificent Beartooth Mountains, and forays through Columbus, Big Timber, Livingston and Absarokee over the course of a 6-day journey.
Riders can expect up to 21K feet of climbing and 370 miles of cycling fun overall. The Tour also includes the option to opt out of riding day four and enjoy a day of layover fishing and relaxing in the Yellowstone River while in Livingston. All routes blend a perfect brew of gravel roads, amazing vistas and paved roads. To enjoy all these mixed surfaces have to offer, a gravel bike or road bike with a minimum tire width of 35mm is recommended.
The Tour Includes:
Support from town-to-town: baggage haul, gear drop and shuttle access
This is a camp-based bike tour and that is definitely where a lot of the fun happens. If you’d like to enter to win, but prefer not to camp, the tour will go through towns with hotels or a shuttle to them. See optional hotels in Accommodations. Please note, that these accomodations would be the sole responsibility of the Giveaway Winner and would not be provided by Terry Bikes or Montana Tours as part of the prize package.
“Fantastic mountain scenery, excellent routes and friendly, first-class ride support. If this is your idea of a cycling adventure, I highly recommend the Montana Tour. Cycling in Big Sky country was equally challenging, fun, and memorable. I give the Montana Tour 5 out of 5 chainrings.”
Designed for those who travel with their bikes, the Touring Jersey was built for multi-day riding, gravel riding, event riding and big days in the saddle. First, it has a relaxed fit and is made of a combination of sun protective, wicking polyester jacquard and strategically placed mesh inserts in key sweat zones. Touring-specific features include lots of usable pockets: 3 open rear pockets, side zip security pocket. Thoughtfully designed with all-day comfort in mind, it has a low profile collar and laser-cut sleeves.
We made the Grand Touring Short for serious riders who spend a lot of time in the saddle, go on tours, like gravel or simply want the best. Filled with features like strategically placed touring pockets and a more padded chamois, it’s also made of Polartec’s tri-blended Powerstretch fabric which dries super quickly, fits beautifully and provides the ideal level of compression. Designed for all-day comfort, the waistband is elastic free and bonded to reduce seaming against your front waist. The leg bands, too, are designed without a high degree of restriction, instead using stitchless hypoallergenic gripper tape on the inside of the leg hem to keep things gently in place for the long haul. 8.5 inch inseam.
Weightless, translucent and completely wind protective, our first-ever shell jacket packs into its own rear zip pocket which can then be stowed compactly in your jersey pocket. The Mistral is detailed to ride with a hem drawcord, reflective front zipper, rear shoulder stretch panels and reflective taping at rear. Semi-fitted.
We developed this all-day glove with the best of everything, starting with the fit. The Touring Gel Glove molds to the hand by virtue of the stretch microfiber on back of hand, wrapping sidehand panel and zonal gel palm pad placement. The wrist fit is key as it comes in contact with many nerves that require a gentle touch, so we’ve loaded it up with a thin and highly adjustable Velcro closure system. Beyond the fit, we’ve packed these beauties up with palm construction details to give you maximum comfort and dexterity.
