We just returned from the annual INTERBIKE trade show in Las Vegas, where we got to see all the new things on the horizon for next year. Check out some of the things that caught our eye:

Electric bikes have taken over – this show, that is. Europe, too. Faraday makes the most beautiful.

Much lighter than other skate-style bike helmets, these award -winning, German-designed, urban melon protectors come in tons of flavors. And their jelly-lucent visors are super sweet.
New from our buddies out in San Diego, the women-specific Rhoam Dirt Shoe is destined for a Terry catalog near you.
There’s sooooooo much new, wonderful Terry product coming for 2016 that it wouldn’t be fair to reveal it all – yet. Here’s a tiny taste…

This company always makes a sole-ful statement at Interbike:
CALLING ALL GHOULS.
The only thing better than riding through the end of October is capping it off with a Halloween bike parade. And there’s no better place to do so than Chicago. Last year, I rode with Dorothy, the Tin Man and about 50 Wicked Witches on everything from stacker bikes to lit up cruisers.
Dovetailing perfectly with the monthly Critical Mass ride (the last Friday of every month), this annual event draws hundreds of riders to downtown Chicago in a festive, organized, slightly raucous cruise. I found myself singing and laughing for 2 hours. Highly recommend this, or any of these spooktacular options:
Burlington, VT: 7th Annual Halloween Bike Ride by Old Spokes Home, 10/30
Berkey, OH: Tombstone Tour, Saturday, 10/22
Los Angeles: Critical Mass Halloween Ride (4000 riders strong!), 10/28

Peter Sagan has been dubbed “the rock star of cycling.”

Here is a collection of articles and videos we think best present this cycling “rock star”.
Peter won the 2015 UCI World Championship last October in Richmond, VA.

Peter briefly rode on the Cannondale MTB squad.

In Rio, he was seeded to start dead last. During the first lap he stunned all by catching the leaders. Two punctured tires put him out of contention.

Peter has made a series of T-Mobile commercials in his home country, Slovakia.

What an awesome Christmas sweater and street decorations!

Peter was married in November 2015 to Katarina Smolkova.

As part of the ceremony, he rode a bike across a tight rope.

All of us at Terry wish for him a long and successful career!
Our latest review knocked us back on our cleats a bit. Not because it was bad (another 5 stars for Terry!) but because it was from a guy and it was for our Thermal Stretch Mini.
Stormy has a blog called “the Art of Hookie” where he writes about the many adventures he, his ukulele and his various nomadic devices go on. Here’s a snippet that sheds light on how the mankilt concept fits in:
One of the things I’ve always carried with me is that she told me to surround myself in a pink cloud and would always be safe. I’ve done this from that day foreward, sometimes it’s a self induced cloud, others it’s a pink tee or some other article of clothing. I’ll never forget when my mom brought home a pink pair of Sperry topsiders for me, I was like, why the hell would she get me these but I loved them and to date I have always been safe, even in some of the most dangerous conditions in the world.
I was really hoping for some soft of high visibility pink kilt to wear on the cycling journey that I still have yet to commit to. But have given up as I simply couldn’t find a good fit. I did find a great Terry thermal kilt for the cold days to go over my camo mangings but it’s a very disappointing grey, although it’s super warm and will let me change my clothes modestly right in the side of the highway. Man kilts are functional as hell when used right and the fit is perfect.
So I found these awesome pink socks to keep me safe on my journey although I’m sure the redneck idiots will have a few words but I have no issues with telling them where they can stick it. So that’s that I have officially busted my budget and obtained everything I need except basic riding clothing tops and bottoms but for now a pair of runners and my old backpacking shirts will do. My contract ends in two weeks and that’s when the adventure will begin, I can hardly wait to see where my journey goes.
Tailwinds, dude!
The dirty little secret of technical apparel: it stinks. The build-up of perspiration salts, odor and bacteria produce a residue that can prove challenging to remove. Although many companies like to blame the laundry habits of their customers, the reality is that the fabric weave itself can be a big part of the problem. According to Proctor & Gamble (the Tide folks), those nice little air channels that help wick away moisture can trap dirt and bacteria, acting as odor magnets. If like me, you figure a wash cycle does the trick, you may be surprised to hear that “rebloom” – lingering odors, post wash – is estimated to affect half of all activewear wash loads.
There are lots of home remedies and special detergents on the market that have been designed specifically for sports apparel. The key, of course, is not to use anything harsh that will break down the fabric, the Lycra®, the chamois, the silicone gripper.
Pop Sugar claims to have tested lots of DIY solutions and most every detergent. Here’s their verdict on the top 4 options for keeping your pricey activewear clean:
“Get the Stink Out.” You’ll find this one sold at REI so you know it’s decent at what it claims to do. It works with high efficiency washers, prevents color fading and won’t damage your favorite pair of shorts. Biodegradable and vegetable based.
The Odor Defense Collection is something new from Proctor & Gamble that’s powered by enzymes and surfactants that eliminate odors rather than just masking them. It’s comprised of detergent pods and paired with Downy Fresh Protect that has Febreze Odor Defense beads in it. This dynamic duo removes dirt & residue, seals in odor protection and leaves a clean, fresh scent in its wake.
A fragrance-free, eco-friendly option that’s non-abrasive and rinses clean with no residue. Made of purified water, non-hazardous biodegradable surfactants and salts.
Formulated by a pro athlete who noticed his apparel and tech gear would still smell after washing. This led to a discovery that odor=bacteria. He partnered with scientists to develop the best cleaning, proactively protecting products for synthetic fabrics (though HEX is also recommended for all fabrics).
Beyond re-thinking your detergent, here are some additional tips:
• Wash your cycling apparel as quickly as you can after use or at least separate them from the rest of your laundry and let them air dry.
• To preserve the integrity of the performance fabric characteristics and allow the detergent maximum contact, we always recommend laundering inside out and in a cold wash.
• Forget the fabric softeners and dryer sheets – they can clog the fibers and reduce their ability to wick sweat and fight odors.
• Tumble dry on low.

Oh my, yes. And you should be on it. This bike cruise uses a chartered ship to provide better cycling through multiple regions with luxurious flexibility. On any day you can ride long, short, or not at all.
If you opt not to ride you can stay aboard for the scenic morning cruise or join Sergio for a guided tour by bus. Either way the ship spends late afternoons docked at a fascinating port before traveling up to 150 miles overnight to reach our following day’s adventure.
Imagine the convenience, security, and comfort of returning to the same 5-star resort after each day’s ride, and the excitement of exploring an entirely new region the following day.
Sound interesting?
The cycling is better than France, Italy or the Pacific Coast.
Your stuff stays in one room, yet you move about at night by private yacht so you explore an entirely new region the next day.
The yacht is filled with cyclists only, many of whom will be traveling solo.
Our hosts are expert bike tourists with deep connections around the world and an appreciation for good food, good wine, good routes.
