A Ride Down Memory Lane
We started making saddles for men in 1998, after we introduced the first Women’s Liberator and started getting calls about selling them to men, too. Most of these calls involved descriptions of terrible things and foreign body parts. We soon got our xy chromosome design act together, collaborated with a great team of experts and dudes we knew we could experiment on without too much damage. In short order, a man’s saddle became our best selling product, and the rest is history…

Girls Outdoors was founded in 2006 as a grass roots endeavor for the common girl folk. The shop’s mission: enhance the opportunities of outdoor minded women living in and visiting the Gallatin Valley (Montana). They offer apparel and equipment that appeals to the adventurous spirit. The simple genius of this pack’s design is noted when with feet on the ground, but not dismounted, you can slide it off your right arm and let it sling down under your left arm to unzip the side camera pocket for an easy grab and click.
This is the best way, bar none other, to carry a DSLR camera on a bike tour. The built in padded camera pocket is large enough for a Rebel 5, or similar camera, with 18-55 mm lens and a 75-300 mm telephoto lens and has all sorts of little nooks and crannies for memory cards, battery charger and cords.
The main compartment is large enough to carry lunch, rain jacket and pants and other accessories. The front pouch expands for a helmet, or when on bike some Reefs for destination sightseeing or the cafe. There is a compartment and slot for a hydration bladder, although the pack does not come with one. The padded waste straps and sternum strap keep this super-lightweight pack secure while riding and there are two easy reach side zip pockets to fit an iPhone 6 with Google bike maps. The back padding is channeled for comfort and breathability. Lastly, there are cinch straps to hold a small tri-pod and tabs to clip a light to. The pack is very water resistant on its own, but also comes with a self-pouched waterproof, hi-viz rain cover.
Note, this pack can also double as a travel pack, but it does not accommodate a laptop; I took it along with my commuter pack as a second personal item on the plane.

There’s no argument that men have dominated the cycling industry for generations, but today there’s a strong emergence of women cyclists and it’s exciting how the marketplace is responding to address their needs. OneTen Cycles, an independently owned bike store, plans to make a big impact helping more women ride bicycles.
OneTen Cycles prides itself on being a woman-friendly bike store. This approach starts with a genuine greeting as you enter the shop, but there’s much more to making you feel comfortable. First, they have women working for them both behind the scenes and on the sales floor. OneTen is proud to employ two female sales associates and a female buyer/merchandiser. The store’s assortment ranges from recreational riders to performance cyclists. Terry clothing is a favorite because it offers both technical fabric and styling that is innovative and attractive. Furthermore, Terry offers sizing for real women’s bodies from size zero to plus sizes. Staff favorites include the Bella short and the infamous Bolero!
In addition to a woman friendly store and a vast women’s product assortment, OneTen Cycles also hosts women specific events such as No Drop Rides and Fix a Flat Seminars, as well as partnering with studios that offer spin classes. As an owner of a cycling company that promotes “women in cycling” it was a natural to explore a variety women’s specific cycling brands. I was drawn to Terry right away because of Georgena Terry and her impact on women and cycling. I thought she was such an inspiration to women and cyclists in general.
When I meet with a potential Terry dealer the first thing I talk about is the Terry Saddle demo program and the wide variety of size options in clothing. No other brand offers so many sizing options for women than Terry. Saddles, sizing and their “ride it and love it” guarantee program make it an easy sell.
Pedal Pushers Diva Day clinics are geared towards female cycling enthusiasts looking to gain confidence and efficiency on the bike. Many of the women are intimated by the sport and come to us to meet other female cyclists and learn new skills. The first thing we tell the women is the importance of being comfortable on the bike. A proper bike-fit and saddle can make a huge difference. If they are experiencing discomfort they will not stick with the sport.
Many women want to know how I got into cycling. My father used to take me down to the Beaches in Toronto on weekends from the age of 10. A Dairy Queen ice cream was part of the incentive so I was hooked quickly. I took up mtb biking in my early twenties and started racing when I moved out West. I took up road biking in my early thirties as part of my mtn bike training. I love both sports equally and am passionate about showcasing them to as many women as possible.
Noelle Wansbrough (owner of Pedal Pushers and also a Terry Sales Rep in Canada) has over 20 years experience in competitive cycling and bike touring. She’s a trained PowerWatts coach and runs the Colllingwood PowerWatts Studio. Achievements include podium finishes at the Canadian National Championships, Centurion Canada, Canada Cup , Ontario Cup and B.C. Cup Mountain bike races. Noelle has been named Centurion Canada’s and Move Canada’s “Inspirational Coach” for 2013 and is is dedicated to promoting cycling and fitness for all levels of riders on and off road. Her company, Pedal Pushers, offers personalized road and mountain bike clinics, coaching services and tours to all levels of cyclists who are looking not only to improve their bike handling skills, but explore new and exciting terrain on and off road. Pedal Pushers coaches are NCCP trained and have years of racing experience at the elite and masters level. Pedal Pushers women’s cycling clinics provide a premier training experience designed specifically for female cyclists. Collingwood, Ontario and The Blue Mountains is a cycling mecca for mountain bike and road riders and offers a variety of terrain for all levels of riders. Pedal Pushers will tailor your day according to the skill level of the group, focusing on a variety of bike handling drills such as cornering, climbing, descending, gear selection, pack riding and more.
